Slugs and snails are those sneaky pests that will start a surprise attack overnight. They like warm sunny days in Spring and Fall. Slugs, however, are active throughout the year, unlike snails, which are dormant during autumn and winter. Slugs especially love the dark and wet condition.
It has been known that zinc in pennies can help repel and deter these creepy crawlies. You can simply sprinkle pennies around the flower and vegetable beds or you can turn it into a piece of yard decor.
You can use a foam ball. We decided to use our left over concrete from the elephant ear bird bath project. Apply outdoor glue and use the pennies to cover it all up. You can also finish it off grouting the gaps as well. We went with a bit more of an unfinished look. Display it in your garden around veggies or flowers that snails and slugs might prefer. Hostas are slug magnets!
