Fixing a Squeaky Wood Floor From Below

To tighten a loose subfloor board, place glue on the tip of a shim and hammer it between the subfloor and joist until tight. To tighten a series boards, drive a 2x4 against the subfloor using a prop. Nail 2x4 to the joist. Repeat on opposite side.

To tighten loose boards, use 1-1/4" inch roundhead screws. Use washers and drill pilot holes.

 

To tighten bridging, hammer in new, larger nails. If still squeaking add steel bridges.
 
To add steel bridging, push new bridging tight against subfloor, and nail to bottom.
