Are you leaning towards a more whimsical Halloween or a spooky atmosphere? If you prefer the friendly ghost vibe of Casper, join us as we transform this pile of twine into an adorable, friendly ghost!

Sutherlands offers a wide variety of twine and thick yarn that are ideal for this project. We selected a slightly thicker option, approximately 1/4" in thickness. Additionally, you will require a bottle of all-purpose glue, felt cloth and spray paint (optional).

Find a piece of cardboard and sketch a half circle. This will serve as the top part of your ghost where you'll apply glue. Feel free to adjust the size to your liking, making it as small or as large as you desire.

Apply glue and cut a section of the twine and follow the traced line. Apply glue to the rest of the area. You can precut the rope but be sure to leave a lot of access. We cut as we go. Don’t worry about the uneven length. You can trim them up later.

We ultimately needed to acquire a larger piece to maintain the oval shape we desired. Throughout this process, you can mold it with your hands to ensure it doesn’t merely resemble a half circle.

Position a heavy object, such as a stone, while permitting it to dry.

Wait for a few hours and start untwisting the bottom of the twines. We are making it floating!

Let’s just say the more it resembles Cousin It, the better! Trim and peel away some of the cardboard backing. You can choose to remove it entirely or leave part of it on top. At this point, if any layer starts to loosen, you can always use a glue gun to keep everything securely in place.

Cut an additional piece of twine and attach it using glue to create a hanger at the back.

It’s time to give our Casper a face. If you have a piece of black felt laying around that will be ideal. I used the white one and spray painted it black. Draw 2 oblong shapes for the eyes.

Boo! He can see you! Feel free to trim the bottom to your liking. Working with this twine may be a bit rigid, but you can train it to bend in any direction you desire. We actually enjoy the unevenness of his robe! |
This project will also be a lot of fun for the kids! Enjoy your family time, and don’t forget to tag us if you decide to create one!
