What Type of Home Makeover Are You?
Do you prefer to toss out the OLD and embrace the NEW? Or do you see the potential in revitalizing the OLD? If you enjoy projects that don’t require power tools, join us!

Things you will need:
- A thick framed picture frame
- Wood dowels
- Paint spray
- Handsaw
- Glue gun or wood glue
- Small brush
- Disposable gloves
- Sandpaper
- Tape measure
- Carpenter pencil
- Duct tape

To successfully complete this project, it’s advisable to use a thicker frame. It will provide ample surface area for wooden dowels. Sutherland's offers a variety of sizes and thicknesses of dowels. We recommend bringing the frame with you while shopping to simplify the selection process. Opt for a size that allows you to incorporate multiple pieces on the frame.
Next, measure the lengths of all sides of the frame and mark the dowels accordingly. For this 12" frame designed for a 4x6 matted picture, it's better to cut it longer rather than shorter. We ultimately required three long pieces of dowel.

Using a handsaw, begin to slice through the wood. It does require two people: one to hold the end steady and one to saw.
While cutting with a handsaw may not yield the precision and smoothness of a power tool, we are progressing to the next step that will assist in our project.

Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges. It's often preferable to cut it slightly longer than the frame, so you can easily sand it down to the correct size.

Next up is to spray paint all the pieces.

There’s no need to paint the underside, as that part will be glued down. (If you prefer a solid-color frame, you can always spray paint it in the next step.)

Once all the dowels have dried, begin the attachment process. It's important to note that some gaps may be visible, which may influence your decision on the color base for the frame. We ended up retouching to cover the gold later, so you can choose either method.
To secure the dowels, you can use a glue gun. However, keep in mind that this method bonds quickly, making it difficult to adjust the spacing. Alternatively, using wood glue might be a better choice if you want to ensure precise alignment of the dowels.

We opted for a glue gun. You can apply the glue directly onto the frame or the dowels themselves. Feel free to mix and match different color patterns in your design. If you find it challenging to keep the dowels uniform in length, consider creating an offset pattern using white pieces. We painted all visible gold areas with black paint.

Ta da! This will surely enhance their summer decorations and create lasting memories. Be sure to tag us if you decide to give this a try!
