When you're all revved up for your home makeover with a new paint job, the gutters probably aren't stealing the spotlight in your mind, right? But hold onto your brushes, because guess what? Those sneaky gutters can actually strut their stuff and give your house a whole new vibe!

Have you ever peeked at your neighbor's house and spotted a subtle change with a wow factor transformation? While some may opt to conceal those unsightly gutters, the trend among homeowners and paint pros is to jazz them up, giving them a fresh and trendy look!

While white may be a timeless, and a clean choice, the high contrast added a fresh and modern touch to the house. Think of it as a unique aspect of the trim work.

How to paint existing gutters:
First determine the materials of your gutters. Metal or aluminum is the most common. We recommend using acrylic base paint (It is not recommended to paint over copper matierial however.) If yours are made from PVC, paint might not last as long. Be sure to keep this in mind.

A few things you will need:
- Paint brush or paint sprayer
- Paint scraper
- Sandpaper
- Primer (if needed)
- Drop cloths or plastic sheets
- Ladder
- Cleaning solution
- Water hose
- Telescoping Gutter Cleaner
- Gloves
Here are the steps to paint gutters:
- Clean the gutters thoroughly using a pressure washer to clean the surface.
- Allow the gutters to dry completely.
- If there is any loose or peeling paint, use a paint scraper and sander or sand paper to create a smooth surface.
- Stir the exterior paint well before using it. Apply the paint to the gutters using a paint brush or a paint sprayer, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Work in small sections, starting from one end and moving to the other. Be sure to apply an even coat of paint and watch out for drips or pooling.
- Allow the first coat to dry completely before applying a second coat if necessary.

While you have the ladder out, consider adding gutter guards to help keep debris out of your gutters. Check out Sutherlands selection, especially the easy snap on. View how-to video here from our partner @Amerimax.
