Fall marks the arrival of a new season, bidding farewell to summer. This is the perfect opportunity to prepare your yard, including some tree trimming. It's time to replace summer flowers with vibrant fall plants. For plant enthusiasts, it can be tough to part with those lovely hanging ferns, although they may begin to look a bit worn.
At the same time, we eagerly anticipate October, the spooky season! Sutherlands has two quick craft ideas to creatively repurpose summer scraps for Halloween fun.

All you need is a can of spray paint!

We used black spray paint to create the haunted halloween fern. It is a bit tricky to get good coverage. We used about half a can to cover. Use a tree branch to lift the fern leaves to spray on the under side. Black works well as the color pops nicely against the bright fall mums and pumpkins. Try purple!

This easy project gives a good reason to get the kids help while you are trimming down the tree branches this fall.

First off, may we say a cordless pole saw might be the next best thing since the innovation of the microwave! (Yes, we are exaggerating). Imagine going around the yard without worrying about extension cords while trimming bushes and trees, let alone try not to trim the cord itself! Sutherlands staff can help you find the right one for the job.

Now it’s time for the hunt. Allow the kids to use their imagination. Tell them to imagine a face on it! Can they visualize the face, the mouth and make these branches come alive!? Give them a good coat of white paint. Draw faces with sharpie or craft paint. Display it however you like! We stuck ours on a vase. You can glue them onto a piece of 2x4 perhaps. Haunting forest!
Stop by Sutherlands for all things you need this spooky season; pumpkins, mums, flash lights, blacklight, fun colorful light bulbs and more!
