First, we should understand the life cycle of these annoying creatures. According to our partner, Cutter, there are 4 stages:

  • EGGS: Female mosquitos lay eggs in containers that hold water. You will be surprised how small an amount of water is needed.
  • LARVA: Eggs hatch within a few days to months when covered in water.
  • LARVAE LIVE: Larvae live in water and develop into pupae in as few as 5 days.
  • ADULT MOSQUITOES: Pupae live in the water and then develop into adult, flying mosquitoes in 2-3 days.

They can lay up to 100 eggs at a time! So first things first, eliminate standing water such as flowerpots, gutters, ponds, rain barrels, and birdbaths.
