Trimming trees and branches is a vital task for homeowners. Trimming enhances the overall health of the trees by promoting air circulation. Overgrown trees and branches that hang too close to your building can lead to property damage during storms, sometimes, major storms can produce a large amount of debris.
If a local recycling facility is available in your area, you can dispose of the trimmings there. However, for many DIY enthusiasts who recognize the potential in their garden debris, this project might capture your interest.

We actually picked out these 2 pieces after a storm. A small piece was partially sliced off exposing beautiful wood texture. Here are a few things you will need for this project:
- Drill
- Chainsaw
- Spade bit (1.5")
- Drum sand or sandpaper
- Tealights (battery operated or regular ones)
- Carpenter pencil
- Stones (optional)

First, you will want to mark where you want to position the tealights, and how many.

If you do this by yourself, you can place the log in between rocks to secure it in place.

Start drilling. The depth of the holes depends on how you want to display the tealight. We plan to make it easy to remove or replace tealights. Using a 1.5" drill bit size makes the holes a bit snug. We can always wiggle the bit around the make the hole bigger.

Replace the bit with the sand drum. Give it all a good polish. You can always do this by hand with sandpaper.
