Flower Pressed Mason Jar Light

Published on

Enjoy the nature, admire the beautiful flowers you grow, get your creative on and turn them into a one of a kind mason jar light.

Things you will need:

  • Mason jars or glass jars
  • Small Paint brush
  • Twine
  • Mod Podge
  • Fresh flowers
  • Thick heavy books (we dusted off encyclopidias)
  • Parchment paper
  • Tea light or LED candle

First, let's take a walk on the wild side in your back yard to gather plant clippings you love. Grab a combination of intriguing textures along with bright, colorfule flowers that have big beautiful blossoms and petals.

Spread out all the plants in a book. Do not overlap and make sure to arrange them to ensure they don't get folded. For bigger plants that are not hard to break, you can lay them directly in the book. It is best to lay them on parchment paper to avoid smearing. You must use the parchment paper for fragile flowers because they can get stuck to the book pages. Once completed, put more weight on top of the book to keep them pressed; phone books or heavy encyclopedias are ideal! It is important to mark which pages you put your plant clippings in as they will get flatten and be hard to find, especially small thin flowers.

Wait a week or two and make sure they are all pressed and dry. Lay them out and start planning the design.

We like to start with bigger flowers as the focal pieces first. You can build as you go around the jar.

Brush Mod Podge directly on the jar. Place the clipping and lightly apply another thin layer of Mod Podge on top.

Once dry, apply another thin layer of Mod Podge all over to create an obscure look to the mason jar. Let dry.

Mod Podge will dry transparent. Tie the twine for a rustic finishing touch.

This is another must do for the summer and a great way to have a keepsake of what you plant to enjoy for years to come.
