Description
No other plant expresses the beauty of the South as gracefully as the blossoms of the Gardenia, a genus of about 142 known flowering species. The evergreen shrubs and small trees have leaves that are opposite or in whorls of three or four. The leaves are broad, dark green and glossy with a leathery texture with the fragrant blossoms growing solitary or in beautiful clusters. A little known fact of the Gardenia genus is that it is part of the coffee family, Rubiaceae.
