How to Choose the Right Kitchen Floor

Published on

When choosing what type of floor would work best in your kitchen, there are many things to take into consideration before making that decision. Kitchens see the most traffic of any room in the home. The kitchen can sometimes turn into a multi-purpose room and be used for more than just eating and cooking. Chairs will be slid across the floor and spills will happen. If you have active children and pets, durable and easy to clean will be important to you. So what type of flooring will live up to all the wear and tear that happens in the kitchen? There are many types of flooring to choose from and we are going to help you decide which floor will work best in your space.

Ceramic Tile – Ceramic tile is a great choice for kitchens. Ceramic tile is durable and very easy to clean. The best part is that it is very affordable and it comes in so many different colors, sizes, and patterns, that you will be able to create the look you are wanting in your kitchen.

Porcelain Tile – Porcelain is a type of ceramic tile that has color all the way through. This type of tile can look like a hardwood or a natural stone. So if that is the look you are going for without the price tag, porcelain tile is a great choice. Porcelain is harder than other tiles which can make it uncomfortable to stand on but damage likely won't show as much.

Hardwood Floors – Hardwood floors are always a great choice when looking for new flooring. Hardwood floors are comfortable and bring warmth to any home. They also increase the value of your home. The downfall with hardwood floors is that although the look is great, they do fall victim to wear and tear. However some hardwood floors have come a long way and will stay looking newer longer.

Laminate Floor – Laminate flooring is another choice for your kitchen floors! You can get the look of stone or hardwood flooring at a fraction of the cost. Laminate is also less prone to scratching which is very important, especially in a high traffic area like a kitchen. The installation process is easy when it comes to laminate flooring as well. You can install laminate directly over existing flooring. The only downfall, however, is that they tend to have a shorter lifespan, and do not increase your home's value.

Vinyl Flooring – Vinyl floors are long-lasting and easy to clean. It also helps that they offer tremendous amounts of cushioning. Vinyl flooring can easily be installed over your subfloor and is also an easy flooring to cut, making this a great DIY job.

There is also the style factor...how will your new kitchen floor look with the other flooring you already have in your home? All of these flooring options are great for a kitchen, it just depends on your preference and your budget. These are definitely some things to take into consideration before making the big purchase.
